Friday Post: PiMAME 0.8 Preview Release (only for the brave)

Hey All!

Happy Friday!  It has been a long week.  The weather in Florida right now is crazy.  One day it’s 80 degrees, the next day its 50, then 70, then 40.  I wish it would make up its mind!  The bad part about it is everyone is getting sick.  Anyways…

PiMAME 0.8…
… preview release only for the brave edition

PiMAME 0.8 is almost done.  We have a few more bugs to fix, and some more features to test, but the basics are there.

I have an installer available for the brave to try.  It will make a new pimame folder in your home directory, so I recommend using a fresh install of Raspbian.

From the home directory in your command line, enter in the following command:

wget -O - | bash

When that has finished running, reboot your Pi.  It should automatically boot up into the new launcher, and a web interface should be available at your Pi’s IP address.

If you decide to test this, please send me any and all feedback!  It is much appreciated!

This has been a huge labor of love, and I couldn’t have done it without some of the contributors to the codebase:

  • Zach –
  • Connor –
  • Scotty –

Thanks everyone!  Have a great weekend!

  2. I’ve tried downloading this everal imes and i’m sure i’m just being an idiot about it but I can’t get it to bot into the new os, can you suggest what might be going wrong?

  3. Shea,

I just got a pi recently to mess around with plex, raspbian, etc. I was too busy enjoying the experience to do much testing. 🙂

  4. Hi, Just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work on PIMAME. Im really excited to try out the new version.

One quick question, Would it be possible to get step by step instruction on how to install PIMAME 0.8 on Raspbian from start to finish? I appreciate this is a noob question however i just want to make sure as i read these instruction here however not sure if this would get the latest version or the one before.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Installs and loads beautifully, I cannot wait for the official release.
1 Minor issue – No scrolling on the launcher page, and the GBA and Shutdown icons are hidden at 720p resolutions My Pi is on a 19″ widescreen telly, and 1080p is way to small to see LOL

2 more major ones – The Webupload of roms seems to be incomplete – no option to select system and upload, I guess this is coming I love the idea.
Also I get crashes when launching roms from the Genesis folder, I have tried Sonic 1, 2 and 3. No obvious crash, but also no game launches.

For a preview release I love the look and feel. and as a Mac user I am really looking forward to the Web Upload as ENT4 partitions are a real pain on a Mac!

    Many thanks
